Greg Best

GREG BEST began his career as an Estée Lauder Hair Care expert at Mandala for Hair, once rated by Harper’s Bazaar as one of the top 10 salons nationwide. He opened G Best Color Salon in 1986 to national acclaim, once ranked as top color salon by SELF and featured in The Color of Passion, Vol. 9.

He is a former president of International Haircolor Exchange and an IHE board member since 1995. A certified Redken Deco Color Specialist, he has been vice-chairman of the Oregon State Board of Cosmetology and a member of the John Frieda Hair Advisory Committee.

He invented the Appli-Fast hair coloring tool as well as the Best Wave System, a texture rod system designed for long hair.

Currently he is hair advisor to KATU-TV’s AM Northwest and is team stylist and hair advisor to the WNBA and ABL basketball associations.

JO BLACKWELL-PRESTON is a renowned international platform artist for L’Oreal Professionel. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Intercoiffure America/Canada, as well as an executive board member of Intercoiffure’s Haircolor Council. She has received the “Educator of the Year” Award from International Haircolor Exchange.

She won an Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for hairstyling in a public service announcement in the “Get Low and Go” campaign for the New York Fire Department featuring Elmo of the Muppets. She also was a featured stylist and colorist on the pilot episode of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

LOIS CHRISTIE is president of Intercoiffure America/Canada with 38 years' experience as a colorist. In her first salon, she moved her coloring services from the back room to the front windows, all the better to show off color's inherent glamour and its proper place in the realm of fashion.

Her work has been featured in leading national magazines, newspapers and trade publications. She has been recognized as one of the Top Ten Women in Business and honored by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg for her leadership and contributions to business and philanthropy. City Hall selected her Woman of the Year for her fundraising efforts on behalf of countless charities and community-based organizations.

Christie & Co. was recognized as "Most Pristine Day Spa in New York" by CBS-TV and recently received the "Spa de Beauté" of the Year Award for 2008.

JASON DECAPRIO received the first Masters Award from the former Horst Education Center, now the Aveda Institute, for completion of all three programs in cosmetology, esthiology and massage therapy.

He received the Vidal Sassoon Excellence in New Design Award before joining the renowned Frederic Fekkai & Company Salon in New York. He also received the Rising Star Award from Intercoiffure America/Canada, where he now serves on the Board of Directors, and he is part of Intercoiffure’s Creative Cutting Team.

Once a successful salon and health club owner and manager, Teri joined the Wella U.S. Guest Artist Team in 1994. Teri travels worldwide sharing her expertise on hair design, haircolor and styling techniques.

Teri releases an annual collection of new looks along themes she develops while experiencing other cultures. She accepts styling and coloring appointments at 77 Maiden Lane Salon and Spa in San Francisco, CA, and BB’s Salon in Nevada City, CA.

SCOTT J opened his first salon in 1990 on New York’s fashionable Columbus Avenue. In one year, he was so successful that he doubled both his space and his staff. Today he oversees more than 200 staff members in three locations on Broadway, East 86th Street, and his showplace lifestyle salon and spa, an “urban oasis” on Columbus that is seven times the size of his original.

An Aveda platform artist, he is a recipient of the prestigious Aveda Achievement Award. He is a frequent makeover consultant on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ricki Lake Show, and other TV programs.

He and his salons have raised funds for rain forest conservation and AIDS prevention, as well as donating gifts and services for local schools and hospitals, including a program for cancer patients at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital.

GINA KHAN has been honored with the Matrix “Colorist of the Year” Award twice for her outstanding contributions to the art of haircolor. She has won Haircolor USA’s Creative Artist Award three times, as well as the Heart Award from International Haircolor Exchange. She also was the first recipient of the Noëlle DeCaprio award for humanitarian contributions.

Gina recently received the “Global Salon Business Award” from the UCLA Anderson School of Business for Entrepreneurial Excellence, and she is vice-president of Haute Coiffure Francaise/USA and executive board member of the Intercoiffure America/Canada Haircolor Council. One of her most visible roles is that of international spokesperson for L’Oreal Logics.

Gina and her salon have raised more than $150,000 for local charities, and she has established a program to fund a school for severely disabled children in India.

MARCO PELUSI developed an early passion for haircolor, following his stylist/entrepreneur uncle and father in the hair care business. He worked in product development for Framesi SPA and Joico and eventually served as the latter’s education manager, training and motivating colorists in salons throughout California.

At the same time he opened his own salon in West Hollywood, he also developed the Marco™ Collagen Color Guard™ HairCare System, the first-ever collagen for hair specifically formulated to prevent premature color fade.

A hairstylist and colorist in Los Angeles for 25 years prior to joining Matrix, She developed much of the course content for the Matrix Global Academy. She is a co-founder of the International Haircolor Academy, a member of the American Board of Certified Haircolorists, and a founding Board member of International Haircolor Exchange.

Her haircolor work has been featured in a variety of beauty trade publications and Matrix advertising and marketing campaigns.

DAVID VELASCO is a haircolor authority with more than 30 years’ experience in haircolor development. He studied and worked in London before a stint at the Hair Fashion Development Center in New York.

He became styles director for the Saks Fifth Avenue Salon at only 21 and has done extensive styling and coloring work for print advertising and features and television. He has served as educational and creative consultant for Clairol, Shiseido, and Wella, and he was national artistic director for Wella for more than a decade.
